Dr. Ross explores his creative side with printmaking and painting.
Check out his art website: mrossart.com
He has studied and refined the art of etching and wood block printing with renowned local artists Kevin Fletcher and Rik Olson.
His current passion is linocut, a form of relief print.
An image is carved into the surface of an artist's linoleum block.
The surface of the block is then inked, and the image transfered to a sheet of paper with a press. Single color images require only one pass through the press. Multiple color prints may take multiple passes through the press.
A number of similar prints are called a limited edition.
The prints are numbered, for example 5/36. The number indicates the particular print to be number 5 out of 36 total prints.
Shown below are a few of Dr. Ross' latest prints.
He draws inspiration from nature, in particular, Sonoma County.
His prints have received awards and have appeared in local print competitions.
The print "Hillside oak" recently won second place in the national art contest "Faces and Places" sponsored by Daniel Smith Artist Catalog.
